About the Artist: Elizabeth spent much of her childhood growing up and playing in the deep woods of the western North Carolina mountains. It was there, and from the faerie tales that her mother and grandmother once read to her, that she developed her love of faerie lore. When she was about nine years old, she found a copy of 1001 Arabian Nights on her grandmother's bookshelf, as well as a copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales, and spent many hours perched on a step at her grandmother's house reading these books. From these early experiences, Elizabeth has always had an interest in the stories and myths surrounding faeries, elves, sprites, and other spirits.
In college, Elizabeth studied fine art and majored in graphic design. Earning her degree in 1984, her greatest ability lies in her skill at mixing colors to create harmonious visual imagery and this can be seen in the color schemes she uses in each of her creations. After graduation, and two years of work in a graphic design studio, Elizabeth decided to devote more time to her own work and began creating the faeries and spirits she would become known for. She and her husband currently reside in New Hampshire where she still spends as much time as possible in the woods, or at the seashore.
About the Faeries:
Each faerie doll is completely hand-crafted from the finest of materials including bridal fabrics, laces, rhinestones, feathers, and pearls. The ceramic faces, rosebud hands and shell feet are all original designs, hand painted by the artist. Each faerie is a one of a kind creation, following nature themes. Special orders can be commissioned, and angels are available as tree toppers for the Christmas season. Feel free to contact the artist by e-mail if you would like to commission a special creation. About the Spirit Dolls: The artist also creates spirit dolls based on primitive cultural beliefs and forms, such as Hopi Kachina, African masks, aboriginal symbols, and the carvings and totems of the Pacific Northwest and Alaskan Inuit cultures. These dolls typically incorporate items from nature such as shells, fur, stones, and woolen materials. Of original design, the dolls cannot be traced to any one specific culture, but combine elements of many and diverse primitive beliefs.
